Lion Pass Scenic Area is located in Xuan'en County, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province. It is one of the three ancient forts in Xuan'en and a tourist attraction that integrates natural scenery and human landscapes.
Lion Pass is formed by the confluence of three gorges: Dry Canyon, Water Canyon, and Grand Canyon, stretching 9.6 kilometers in length. The mountains here are majestic, with five large and small rocky hills shaped like interlocking tiger teeth. Among them, two rock hills resembling Lion Pass the passage to Changtan River, giving the place its name.
In 2002, the Hongjia River was dammed here to construct the Lion Pass Hydropower Station, turning this area into one of the most fascinating scenic spots in Xuan'en and even Hubei. The scenic area boasts abundant natural landscape resources formed by karst landforms. It is enclosed by three gorges, creating a rare canyon loop structure. Within the canyons, there are numerous caves, picturesque rocks, waterfalls, and other attractions. The ancient hydroelectric power station buildings combine the styles of Tujia dwellings with natural ecology, creating a harmonious blend of architecture and landscape.
Lion Pass Scenic Area is renowned for its unique floating bridge, named "Dream of the Covered Bridge," which spans 400 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width, allowing one-way vehicle traffic. Visitors driving on the floating bridge can experience the sensation of rippling water and a bouncing bridge. Additionally, the scenic area features ecological landscapes such as primitive macaque troops, providing visitors with excellent opportunities to connect with nature.
Notably, Lion Pass Scenic Area is the only scenic spot in China where visitors can drive throughout. There is no need to walk within the scenic area to appreciate its stunning views. Meanwhile, it is also a paradise for photographers, as the spectacular scenery of the canyons and the unique experience of the floating bridge will undoubtedly leave visitors with unforgettable memories.
