Easy and simple method to teach the children concept of Surface tension .

Kids can easily try this simple experiment at home just by using water, black pepper and soap.

So lets get into details of this science experiment for kids.

Materials required-

1.Water
2.Black Pepper
3.Dish washing soap
4.Dish

Procedure-

1.Pour some water in the dish.
2.Sprinkle black pepper in water, it will float on water surface.
3.Put the finger in water and see what happens.Nothing will happen to black pepper.
4.Now take a drop of dish washing soap on your finger and dip it again in water and watch what happens now.
5.Black pepper will move away from the finger.

Can you guess why it happens?

Pepper floats on water surface because of surface tension.
When dish washing liquid touches water , surface tension of water is broken and this makes the topmost layer of water along with pepper to move towards the edge of dish showing as if pepper moves away from soap.
