The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on 11 February, is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women. This Day is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.

Little Einsteins East Africa focuses on STEAM learning for Children aged 3 to 13 years old. The organisation believes that the best can be achieved in boys and girls are equally involved in STEAM learning on the African continent. Focused on raising the next generation of African Innovators through our programs, as part of our contribution to International Day of Women and Girls in Science, founder, Mugure Njendu interviewed formidable women in STEM from the African Continent. This interview features Susan Murabana.

Susan Murabana Owen is a Kenyan astronomer. The co-founder of Travelling Telescope, she is known for her efforts to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics in Africa, particularly among girls.

Travelling Telescope is a social enterprise aiming to educate poor and remote communities about science and astronomy. The organisation has an inflatable planetarium, and in 2020 established the Nairobi Planetarium, East Africa's first permanent planetarium, constructed out of bamboo.

Susan has served as a national advisor for Kenya at Universe Awareness; the African representative on the International Planetarium Association; and as a board member for World Space Week. She is also the president of the African Planetarium Association, which aims to establish more permanent planetariums around the continent.

In 2021, Susan was named as a Space4Women mentor, as part of the United Nations' women in STEM programming.
