■Edogawa Rampo
October 21, 1894 (Meiji 27) - July 28, 1965 (Showa 40)
Japanese mystery novelist, horror novelist, and anthologist. His real name was Hirai Taro. He was the first chairman of the Mystery Writers of Japan. His rank was Shogoi. His order was the Third Class. His pen name is a play on the name of the novelist Edgar Allan Poe.
He was active from the Taisho to Showa periods, and was particularly skilled in mystery novels. He also worked as a critic, researcher, and editor, mainly in the field of mystery novels. He had a great influence on later generations, such as the Edogawa Rampo Prize, which was established with a donation from Rampo, becoming a stepping stone for mystery writers. He also had a history of working as a detective at the Iwai Saburo Detective Agency (Million Materials Service).
