●Main literature
Ellsworth Huntington. (1938). "Climate and Civilization" Translated by Masaki Mari. Iwanami Shoten. amzn.to/403k09G
→This time's seed book. It is an old book that is banned in the geography forum, written by Huntington, a professor (some say assistant professor) of the geography department at Yale University. It is full of the prejudices of Westerners at the time, and has a true imperialist flavor. However, although it is a rather rough argument, the perspective that civilization develops in a climate where human efficiency (work productivity) is maximized is interesting, and if you ignore the old-fashioned prejudices, it is an interesting book. It is easy to read, but please note that it is all in old characters.
Tetsuo Kobayashi. (2016). Reading Ellsworth Huntington's Arteries of Asia: Civilization and Climate (3rd Edition). Hyogensha. amzn.to/4jVvNhz
→This is a translation of the Huntington book mentioned above. However, all the figures and charts in the original have been omitted, and it is an abridged translation of the original, so I honestly can't recommend it. However, it is useful in that it shows the evaluation of the scholar Huntington.
