I took a relaxing solo day trip from Tokyo to Kamakura using just trains and buses—and explored seven amazing local spots for food, drinks, and scenic views.

The journey started in Shinjuku, riding the Shonan-Shinjuku Line to Fujisawa. From there, I hopped on the charming Enoden line toward Kamakura, famous for its ocean views and Japan's sharpest train curve. Before heading to Kamakura Station, I got off at Gokurakuji to visit a hidden hydrangea spot, then stopped by the iconic Great Buddha.

After that, I made a quick stop at a very special Starbucks in town and continued to a sushi spot on bustling Komachi Street. Despite the location, prices were reasonable and the chirashi sushi was fresh and generous. I paired it with a bottle of beer and some sake. Next up: lemon sours and gyoza at a casual lunch-drink spot, followed by a stroll around Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and a peaceful garden.

At 4:30 p.m., I arrived just as a popular standing yakitori bar opened, enjoying freshly grilled skewers before heading to the beach. There, I stopped by a legendary corner bar known mostly to locals, and ended the night at a Chinese diner that stays open until 4 a.m.—a favorite late-night stop for people in the area.

As someone born and raised in the Shonan area, this video includes some real local gems. I hope it inspires your own trip to Kamakura!
