About The Artist:

Reggie Fields was born in 1954 in Gary, Indiana, and grew up in a household that thrived on Motown records and gospel hymns. Though he had a natural gift for singing, Reggie took a more traditional route after high school, earning a degree in business administration and landing a steady job as a supervisor in a bustling Chicago call center. In 1981, Reggie’s career took a dramatic turn when he was fired after several employees accused him of inappropriate conduct. The scandal left him disgraced and jobless. Rather than retreat into obscurity, Reggie channeled his feelings of regret, defiance, and humor into music. With no job and plenty of time, he penned “Work Wife,” a soulful yet biting anthem inspired by his firing and the complicated relationships he’d formed in the workplace. Its funky bassline and catchy chorus made it an instant hit, peaking at #6 on the R&B charts. Reggie went on to release another moderately successful album - HR Approved (1985)—before fading from the spotlight. Though his career was short-lived, “Work Wife” remains a cult classic among fans of 1980s R&B, serving as both a groovy jam and a cautionary tale.
