Rather than retreat into obscurity, Reggie channeled his feelings of regret, defiance, and humor into music. With no job and plenty of time, he penned “Work Wife,” a soulful yet biting anthem inspired by his firing and the complicated relationships he’d formed in the workplace. Its funky bassline and catchy chorus made it an instant hit, peaking at #6 on the R&B charts. Reggie went on to release another moderately successful album - HR Approved (1985)—before fading from the spotlight. Though his career was short-lived, “Work Wife” remains a cult classic among fans of 1980s R&B, serving as both a groovy jam and a cautionary tale.
