How to dye a lampshade ~

You’re never going to skip the lampshade section after this!

I love picking up lampshades at the thrift, and most of them are in fair condition, just a bit dusty & a bit of yellowing. But did you know you can dye them? YES!? But the trick to dyeing a lampshade is heat & timing.

The most critical point to remember when dying a lampshade is to keep the water between warm & hot (I kept mine around 100-120 ° F). The lowest point would be best to make sure that your lampshade doesn’t start disassembling since most shades are made of fabric paper & held with glue. I made sure to keep it no longer than 5 minutes, just keeping checking on it until you get the desired color. Here’s the dye combination I used.

Rit Dye Spice Brown Formula___

• Bin ~ 12 gallons of water
• 1 Bottle Dark Brown
• 1⁄2 Cup Camel
• 1⁄2 Cup Pearl Grey
• Splash of vinegar
• Tsp. of laundry detergent

(Btw, you can check their website for this color formula, and it will give you exact measurement per size of project).

After dyeing it, pull it out and rinse the excess with cold water and let it dry completely before use.
