In February 1945, the leaders of the three Allied world powers met in the imperial palace in Livadia near Yalta. The fate of the post-war world rested in their hands. Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin made the decision to occupy Germany or to incorporate the Eastern Borderlands into the territory of the USSR. It quickly turned out that the allies would become rivals in times of peace. The differences in worldviews and the interests of individual countries were irreconcilable. The new order was supposed to guarantee stability, but it led to the Cold War.
