Pillars of Creation

#ambient #atmospheric #space
The Pillars of Creation are columns of gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula that are home to newborn stars. The pillars are visible in images taken by the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. The pillars look like spires or arches rising from a desert landscape. They are made of semi-transparent gas and dust. The pillars are bathed in ultraviolet light from young stars. They are slowly eroding due to stellar winds. The pillars are located in the Eagle Nebula, which is in the Serpens constellation. The Eagle Nebula is about 7,000 light-years from Earth. The Hubble Space Telescope first imaged the pillars in 1995. The James Webb Space Telescope captured a detailed image of the pillars in 2022.
